Hall of Fame Softball Complex

Description :

The development of recreational facilities benefits a community by increasing municipal revenues, promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging community spirit. Players, coaches, umpires, families and fans are enjoying newly renovated playing fields at the 14-acre Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas. Long considered "The Sports Capital of Texas", Round Rock did everything in typical Texas style; BIG!

ICON personnel worked with design professionals from Shrickel-Rollins and Associates in Dallas, Texas and BWM Group in Round Rock, Texas to produce large shade structures behind the backstops on 24 fields. These structures were part of an overall master plan which became a $5.5 million renovation to the ball fields in what is now called The Hall of Fame Softball Complex.

The cantilevered shade structures have built-up stone pedestal bases that match stone work throughout the park. The tubular steel frames bolted together on site, and the pre-cut roof panels were installed directly to the frame. Construction services were provided by Journeyman Construction from Austin, Texas, Walk in the Park Construction, Inc. from Irving, Texas and Chasco Constructors from Austin, Texas. Sales representation for ICON Shelter Systems Inc. was by The PlayWell Group Inc. in Dallas, Texas.

Icon's involvement with the City of Round Rock began in 2005, when ICON personnel met with officials from the city to discuss designs for proposed improvements to the ballfields at Old Settler's Park. Those shelters were installed in the winter of 2006 (See entry below, "The Ball Fields at Old Settlers Park, Round Rock, Texas ").This collaberation was expanded in 2007 with the design firms mentioned above to complete a much more aggressive schedule of improvements for 2008.

The first games were played November 8, 2008 in conjunction with City of Round Rock fall season for Girls Softball League. City officials stated that they have plans to enlarge the complex in the coming years.

Conversation in October, 2009 with David Buzzell, Director of Park Development for the City of Round Rock, brought news that the park is constantly humming with activity. The Hall of Fame Softball Complex has become a destination for recreational sporting events. Round Rock is certainly a testament to the benefit of developing recreational facilities.

The Ball Fields at Old Settlers Park, Round Rock, Texas

Description :

PLAY BALL!

Players, coaches, umpires and fans are enjoying the newly renovated playing fields at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock, Texas. Long considered "The Sports Capital of Texas", Round Rock did everything in typical Texas style; BIG!

ICON design and sales personnel met with city officials in the spring of 2005 to discuss the vision put on paper to upgrade the areas behind the back stops for scorers, fans and players. They wanted a design to simulate the The Dell Diamond, home field for the local Triple-A team, the Round Rock Express. Construction began in the winter of 2006, and the first shipments from ICON arrived in Texas the end of February.

The top photo at left is the Championship Field, with a continuous shelter around the back stop to cover the scorer's table and the bleachers. These modified monoslope shelters of differing heights feature custom steel ornamentation to designate the field. Turning 45 degrees, the shelter covers the bleachers to protect the fans from the intense Texas sun.

Beyond the bleachers are the new dugouts with integrated chain link protective fence in front and back. Roof decking is 2x6 Western Lodgepole Pine, used to keep the painted metal roofing from denting under the impact of foul balls. Column masonry cladding was provided by the contractor.

The Showcase Fields feature a new 12' square shelter, model number SQ12M-P4, over the scorer's table. The Outer eave beam supports a laser-cut steel sign designating the field number.

ICON's Texas sales representative, The Playwell Group, provided excellent customer service. Installation of the shelters was provided by Walk In The Park Construction Services.

The New CRAFTSMAN SERIES Shelters

Description :

Craftsman Style architecture came out of the English Arts and Crafts movement in the second half of the 19th Century. This movement of applied art and architecture emphasised the importance of craftsmanship and high standards of design for everyday objects.

These new shelters designed in that historic motif are the result of a request by a landscape architectural firm in southern California needing to upgrade a park in a neighborhood that was predominately Craftsman style houses.

Shown here is a 20' hexagon. Also available are squares, octagons, gables and hips. Call or e-mail your local ICON sales representative to receive a copy of the Craftsman Series literature that outlines all styles and sizes, as shows the many options available in this new series of shelters.
