Column Mounting Options

All ICON shelters are connected at the base with four bolts to meet an existing OSHA regulation that requires four bolts at the base of every supporting column. Good engineering reduces the opportunity for error in the field. Multiple internal bolts within a 5” or 6” tube are often difficult to tighten, providing the possibility for some anchor bolts to be left loose. ICON places four bolts outside of the column in order to ensure easy access for tightening in the field.

In order to cover the exposed anchor bolt ends, ICON provides two methods of attachemet at the base: buried bases and surface mounted bases with covers.

Base Connection A
Below Grade Columns

The standard base connection for ICON shelters is to bury the base 6” below the top of the finished slab. Please specify buried columns when placing the order.

Base Connection B
Surface Mounted Columns

ICON shelters can be surface mounted on top of the slab using preformed base covers that attach to the shelter column with rivets as shown in the photograph below. Please specify surface mount when placing the order.
