Custom Work

ICON works with a broad base of professionals who design, build and maintain our public open spaces. Landscape architects, architects, engineers, park planners, facilities managers and park directors all have a hand in the improvement of the public built environment.

We Didn't Know There Was A Box

ICON gets involved in some pretty cool projects. In some cases, we are involved from the very beginning, helping the designer develop the concept.

The most noticeable feature of the shade structure ICON provided for the Creditview Activity Hub is the multi-colored roof. Comprised of layered translucent polycarbonate in a variety of hues, the roof is an interesting mosaic that provides colorful light projections to the pavement below. The colored panels are attached to the steel frame with stainless steel stand-off hardware. The tubular steel frame was powder coated according to the ICON Powder Coat Specification in RAL 9007, which is a custom color application.

Over the last 13 years, I have worked with ICON on numerous projects for the Municipality. From concept to completion they have been a great asset and partner in creating some unique and creative solutions for our projects. The quality of their work is always consistent.

See Who We Work With

The ICON structures at Civita Park in the Mission Valley neighborhood of San Diego are anything but ordinary. Sudberry Properties, master developer of the Civita community, hired Schmidt Design Group, Inc. to do the master plan for the new park located on the site of a former sand and gravel quarry.

Central to the project is the 70’ wide x 35’ deep x 30’ high bandshell at the amphitheater (large photo top of page). Four levels of irregular, curved roof sections are supported by six round columns each. ICON also provided six of the curved structures (at left) that have stainless cable every 12” into which wisteria plants are being trained. It will eventually be a living roof. Completing the phase were two Social Nodes and Garden Shade mono-slope structures with new wisteria as well.
