July 25th, 2024 @ 1:30-3:00 PM EST – Pre-Engineered/Manufactured Shelters: Standard and Custom Solutions for Outdoor Spaces
Course Description:
Outdoor shelters not only provide protection from the elements but also add visual interest to outdoor public spaces, and advances in shelter design are changing the way the recreational landscape is defined. This course looks at current capabilities in shelter design, compares pre-engineered to site-built shelters, and focuses on the advantages of using a manufacturer who offers design and engineering services. Sustainable aspects of shelter design are also discussed.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Identify industry-standard shelters and describe new, trend-setting shelter designs that meet a variety of functional and recreational needs, protecting people from environmental elements while supporting social activities.
- Compare pre-engineered shelters to site-built shelters in terms of architectural design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation.
- Work with a pre-engineered shelter manufacturer to design and specify a shelter that meets local building codes and design loads, is durable, and is aesthetically pleasing.
- Explain how shelters can help meet sustainable design goals and contribute to LEED credits by reducing exposure to environmental tobacco smoke, minimizing effects on human and wildlife habitats by reducing heat islands, and through the efficient selection and use of materials and resources.
